The World Isn't Waiting for Vietnam to Be Ready
by Ngô Thị Bích Quyên
A member came to me last year with a strong domestic business and a simple question: "Should we go global, or is it too early?"
My answer surprised her: "The market won't wait for you to feel ready. The only question is whether you'll go global on your terms, or get forced into it by competitors who already have."
Vietnam's economy is growing faster than almost anywhere in the region. That's good news and a warning sign at the same time. Good news, because there's real momentum and capital flowing in. Warning sign, because every business owner who's still thinking purely "domestic" is about to be outpaced by someone, Vietnamese or foreign, who isn't.
Going global isn't really about logistics, legal structures, or market research, though all of that matters eventually. The real bottleneck is almost always relationships. You don't need a perfect strategy deck. You need someone who already operates in Singapore, Japan, or the US, who can make one warm introduction that saves you eighteen months of cold outreach.
This is the part most people miss about international expansion: it's not done alone, and it's not done by accident. It happens through people who've already built the bridge, and are willing to let you cross it.
If you're a $5M+ business owner with global ambition, the question isn't whether you're "ready." It's whether you're connected to people who are already there.
